Sensei Jim Mahanes

Sensei Jim has been involved in the martial arts since he was 15 years old. He holds black belt ranking in both Chito Ryu, and Wado Ryu styles of Karate and has attended seminars and classes with such notables as Hironori Otsuka II (son of the founder of Wado Ryu Karate), Masifumi Shiomitsu (Wado Ryu) and Tsyoshi Chitosi (founder of Chito Ryu) as well as Joe Lewis, Bill Taylor and Patrick Macarthy.

He began his study of Niseido Ju Jitsu in 2000, under the instruction of Renshi Lane Wommack (5th Degree) in Murfreesboro, Tenn. In 1996, he opened Louisville Ju Jitsu. He received all but two of his ranks (Yellow Belt and Ikyu Brown belt) directly under the watchful eye of Niseido Ju Jitsu Grandmaster and Founder, Professor Rick Riccardi. With 17 years of experience, he holds the rank of San Dan (third degree black belt), and teaches regularly at the dojo.

He has also taught restraint holds to members of the Louisville Metro Corrections, and works as a part-time bouncer locally. He teaches the Louisville Dojo's Women's Self Defense classes.

Sensei Rick Has Been Studying Niseido Ju Jitsu For More Than 6 Years. He Also Has A Boxing And Kempo Background And Is A Former College Football Player. Along With Teaching Regular Classes At Louisville Ju Jitsu, Sensei Rick Is An Officer With The Louisville Metro Police Department.
